The History of Southlake Town Square | The Garden District

The history of Southlake Town Square is a subject of frequent and enthusiastic discussion. The town’s substantial growth is a source of pride among locals, and especially among residents of The Garden District, Southlake Town Square’s prized residential community. It all started back in 1995 when Brian Stebbins, Peter Cooper, and Frank Bliss (a group of developers now known as Cooper and Company) began planning the development that would soon become Southlake Town Square. The opportunity lay in a well-situated 130-acre family farm, northwest of Dallas, Texas and the developers’ strong belief in the possibility of rapid growth in a young community home to exceptional household incomes. Renowned architect David M. Schwarz assisted the developers in creating the Town Square’s Master Plan. Schwarz also designed the Bass Hall, American Airlines Center, and the Rangers’ Ballpark. In 1999, Southlake Town Square opened its $75 million first phase to the public, including the Town Hall. In December 2008, Forbes.com named Southlake the most affluent neighborhood in the country, attributing the honor to real-estate growth that stemmed largely from Southlake Town Square. Its design; retail, residential and commercial spaces; and impeccably kept parks have since become internationally renowned in countries as far away as Japan.

Town Square currently encompasses over 1.4 million square feet of retail shopping, restaurants, office space, Southlake City Hall, a Hilton hotel, and Harkins Theatres, and will soon include The Parkview Residences, a new condominium development offering luxury in-town living. Southlake’s first – and only – condominium offering, Parkview is located in The Garden District, steps from luxury retailers like Pandora, J. McLaughlin, and Kendra Scott, and upscale dining destinations including Mi Cocina, Del Frisco’s Grille, Brio Tuscan Grille, and the soon-to-open Hopdoddy.
